About Buckshot Duck Lodge
Buckshot Duck Lodge was established in August of 2000 by three families residing in Gillett, Arkansas. The purpose in constructing the 10,000 square foot facility is two fold. The primary reason was to provide luxury lodging during duck season for hunters and guests across the nation. Its second purpose was to allow private rental for various social functions, such as reunions, parties, weddings, retreats and corporate events.
Greg has found a successful way to utilize his farmland year ’round, especially during duck season. Buckshot Duck Lodge provides quality waterfowl hunting experiences for all guests. It allows the owners to enjoy their favorite sport in the process. Thus far, it has proven to be beneficial for all involved.
Owners Jimmy & Sherry Hackney have both been actively involved in the Gillett School and community after they were married in 1972. In that same year, Jimmy became head of Hackney Farms, maintaining the tradition. In 1972 they had their first of three sons, Greg, an owner of Buckshot. Sons Chris and Josh followed in 1974 and 1979. Chris and his wife, Chastity live in Cabot with their two children. Josh and his wife, Oksana, live in Little Rock with their son. In 1986 a farming accident confined Jimmy to a wheelchair, but did not interrupt his farming duties or hunting opportunities. He loves all types of outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, and says that “You should always duck hunt on the ‘Dark of the moon”.Jimmy and Sherry both cook full time at the lodge. Sherry cooks breakfast, lunch and dinner. Jimmy is famous for his duck gumbo, camp stew and red beans and rice. They have five grandchildren: Codi, Callie, Jack, Ben, and James.
Owners Greg & Julie Hackney both attended Gillett High School and spent summers working on the family farms of each of their fathers. Both Julie and Greg attended The University of Central Arkansas in Conway. Greg majored in Agricultural Business and Julie “Gordon” earned her degree in Speech-Language Pathology. The two were married in November of 1997 and are now proud parents of their sons, Jack and Ben Hackney. Greg, Owner of Hackney Farms, is a member of Gillett Farmers and Businessman’s Club and a Chairman in the Gillett / Tichnor Duck’s Unlimited Chapter. Julie works part-time as a speech-therapist at Gillett school. The family is very involved in community, school and church activities. The Hackneys feel very blessed to live in Gillett and to be able to share the beauty of this area with others. This summer Greg and Matt Lowe (duck guide) coached their sons’ little league baseball team. The Buckshot team placed 2nd in the division.
